Clothing Exchange founder Kate Luckins is featuring in two Spring Fashion events this week to celebrate style in Melbourne. The first is a broadcast for ABC Radio’s By Design Program, which includes a range of presenters that will speak for 7 minutes about consumerism and fashion. This event is free for all and takes place from 6pm on Wednesday 1st September, in the main Spring Fashion Tent, Corner of Swanston and Collins St.
The second event is “the shop is dead” a panel discussion also featuring Penny Modra (of three thousand fame) and Susan Dimasi (material by product) at 1pm on Wednesday 2nd September. The invite for this little feature is attached. We hope this nourishes your fashion conversation cravings for this week!
With Spring almost in the air, its high time to slow down and enjoy the beautiful change in season … and what a better way to do this than to get of the big smoke and head into the country. If you do and if you are Daylesford way, then this is for you .. On Saturdays in September a series of Sustainable Clothing Workshops will be held at the Daylesford Neighbourhood Centre. The workshops are based around ethical and slow-fashion principles – Make, Do, Mend, Salvage, Swap, and Store. Participants are encouraged to shop within their wardrobes – rummaging through old, threadbare keepsakes, fabric remnants, hand-me-downs, and hidden impulse-buys with price tags screaming out in unworn indignation, dusting them off and bringing them in where fresh eyes, like-minded friends and a professional perspective can encourage new creations. They are hands-on workshops – with garments draped and pinned on the body ready for cutting, unpicking, slicing and re-stitching. Machines, mirrors and mannequins are provided, and no previous sewing skills are required.
Sounds like the perfect way to bring in the new season …

The Clothing Exchange now host swaps to corporate enterprises as a reward for their employees or for their clients. We had a lovely swap for BP at the 1000PoundBend in Melbourne last week.
With some eager women prepared to swap as part of the 1 Million Women Initiative. 1 Million Women is promoting reducing your carbon emissions and they aim to empower 1 Million Women to collectively cut 1 millipon tonnes of carbon dioxide. The Clothing Swap tied in well with their goals for the future.

Every so often we receive an email from a fellow consumption concerned citizen that just knocks us over side ways… but when Jill got in touch with us it felt as if a bus had just come along and swept us off the street entirely. This ambitious young woman has set out to challenge us in the way we consume fashion by not consuming fashion for an entire year! She’s blogging out her adventures, we particularly enjoyed her bravery in publicly announcing her love for animal prints!
She has just updated her website aswell so check it out. And don’t forget to watch her flicks as she creates shock waves through the mass media of free to air TV!
Best of luck Jill with your journey – not long now! And be sure to let us know how it all pans out for you!
