The invitation design was finalised yesterday … cool huh? This is the one for Melbourne – but we are holding events in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane – a truly national event! Check out the events page on our website for all the details.
(PS – if you live outside these areas and want to get involved, why not hold your own swap? full details to come but express your interest by flicking an email to firstname.lastname@example.org)
So you love fashion, care about the environment and keep an active blog? Well then this is for you – we are currently seeking out all those amazing bloggers out there (we know who you are) to come forward, give The Clothing Exchange a little love and most importantly the amazingness that is National Swap Day. And for your troubles we would like to invite you and a friend along to your nearest swap. If you would like to be involved download and fill in the document here and return to Juliette@clothingexchange.com.au
October will be the month of Buy Nothing New, an initiative promoted by Salvos Stores nation wide. This is excellent timing for us as National Swap Day is going to be held on October 25th (as you all know by now!). The lovely people at Salvos have started a great blog – so if you have a moment check it out and get involved. The Salvos do some fantastic work across Australia and particularly towards the end of the year, this is one organization worth supporting.
Juliette was interviewed for the Collaborative Consumption blog this week, and what fabulous timing as ‘What’s Mine is Yours’ the book has just launched this week in The States. We will be park of the book launch in Melbourne by holding a swap and being part of the discussion panel on 18th November – stay tuned for extra details.
National Swap Day is fast approaching … lucky we are getting so much love at the moment that this event is sure to knock those swapped pants right off you! And of course the love is coming from all the right places … check out our latest mention on the Frankie blog. Cool huh?
Be sure to get your hot little hands on the next issue of Frankie (due out October 20th) to see a lovely write up on The Clothing Exchange. Even cooler huh!?
Hello again to all the swapping sisters out there.
We have been pretty busy since I last chatted to you. As you may have noticed while reading the blog, the corporate world and Local Councils have been getting in on the sustainable swapping act by holding swaps for their employees and constituents.
We held a corporate swap in Sydney CBD with Telstra in May. There was a large turnout and the ladies enjoyed the event. Most people there had never heard of this kind of thing but I think they’ll get used to it. There’s nothing that beats getting new clothes and not having to pay for them!
Ku-ring-gai Council just had their swap at Pymble on Election Day on August 21st. This swap went extremely well. I think this one has been our biggest swap to date with more than 170 swappers. There were some lovely items to be had and most people were very happy with their ‘purchases’… that’s using their button currency… hehe.
And I love that we donated so much clothing to the charity, The Clothesline, so a lot of people benefit from our swap events.
Our regular Clothing Exchange swaps have been numerous too. We had a lovely swap at Marlborough Hotel in Newtown on 18th May. We also had two fantastic swaps at Hotel Clarendon in Surry Hills… one on 26th June and again on 14th August. We love this venue. Lots of fabulous clothes were exchanged on these days. People are really getting the hang of what swapping is all about.
Our next big big big event is National Swap Day on Monday 25th October at Cargo Bar, The Lounge, 52-62 The Promenade, King Street Wharf, Sydney. This event is going to be seriously huge. It’s being sponsored by Venustus Beauty And Body Lab, who use wonderful organic products to beautify you and make you look and feel good. And Cargo Bar is a great venue with lovely watery views of Darling Harbour.
So ladies, see you at a swap soon … Kirst and Suzi
